A corrosion-resistant austenitic stainless steel commonly selected when service conditions are more demanding than 304L can comfortably handle.
Key Characteristics
• Better resistance than 304L in more chloride-exposed environments
• Lower-carbon grade supports weldability for many
fabricated uses
• Common for marine-adjacent, chemical, and industrial applications
• Good choice where corrosion performance is a bigger priority than cost

chemical-related parts, and higher-corrosion-duty
components.
Supply / Processing Notes
316L improves corrosion resistance but does not solve
every environment. For highly aggressive media, a
higher alloy grade may still be required.
